Desserts
The best desserts don’t have to be complicated. Some of mine go back generations, like the rhubarb crisp I still bake in my great-grandmother’s Pyrex dish. Others are newer favourites, like a silky lemon posset. All are easy to make, and a sweet reason to linger at the table a little longer.
carrot cake with whipped cream cheese
This recipe takes care of having to grate the carrots by letting the food processor do the work!
Mini Shortbread Tarts
What if thumbprint cookies and Christmas shortbread became one? Buttery, lemon-scented shortbread cups, baked and filled with jam.
Lemon Sponge Pudding
A light, fluffy sponge with a decadent lemon sauce hiding on the bottom, hence its other name, lemon surprise pudding. A vintage winter classic from my mom and her mom.
Pineapple Upside-Down Cake
A vintage cake that has been around since the 1800s. Fresh pineapple caramelized with butter, brown sugar and cinnamon under a tender yogurt cake.
the easiest no-churn ice cream
This recipe is proof you don’t need an ice cream maker to produce delicious results.
fruit galette (rustic easy-to-make pie)
Want to make a pie but not sure if you can? Let’s start with a galette; it’s a perfect introduction to making one.
Chocolate Bark with Sour Gummies
Dark chocolate spread thin and topped with sour gummies and Pop Rocks, then broken into colourful pieces.
Pumpkin and Cream Cheese Gingersnap Tart
Pumpkin pie isn’t everyone’s favourite, but most enjoy cheesecake. This is the perfect marriage of the two, on a base boosted with gingersnap cookies.
Watermelon Baby Carriage
A hollowed watermelon carved into a baby carriage and filled with fresh fruit, with an orange baby, blueberry eyes and orange-slice wheels. A centrepiece that’s the talk of the party.
