Super Bowl Food!
For those who love football, the Super Bowl XLVI seems to have drummed up more excitement than before. Perhaps it’s due in part to the Giants making a comeback or the media obsession with Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady. Whatever the case may be, it’s gonna be a good one. Here’s a bit of football trivia:
- This is New England’s 7th trip to the Super Bowl. It’s New York’s 5th trip.
- The first Super Bowl was held in Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles on January 15, 1967. The Green Bay Packers beat the Kansas City Chiefs, 35-10.
- Timmy Smith of the Redskins holds the Super Bowl record for the most rushing yards in a game. He ran for 204 yards and two touchdowns in Super Bowl XXII against the Denver Broncos. Pretty amazing, considering that he only ran for 602 yards and three touchdowns in his entire NFL career.
- The only player to earn the Super Bowl MVP honor from the losing team was linebacker Chuck Howley of the Cowboys. He won the MVP award after his team lost to the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl V, 16-13.
- Biggest blowout in Super Bowl history? The 49ers beat the Broncos in Super Bowl XXIV, 55-10.
- The closest game in Super Bowl history was when the Giants beat the Bills, 20-19, in Super Bowl XXV. Bills kicker Scott Norwood missed a field goal as time expired. Interestingly, the Giants’ defensive coordinator that year was Bill Belichick while the team’s wide receivers coach was Tom Coughlin. There has never been an overtime game in Super Bowl history.

The Culinary Chase’s Note: I have to confess that I’m not a fan of football (I know, earth-shattering!) but when there’s food involved…I’m there. I do love the commercials spawned from the super bowl games and since we are now living in NY can you guess who we’ll be supporting? Enjoy!

I want to watch the Super Bowl JUST so I can make some of these treats…deliciousness overload!
Thanks Meg! I’ll be watching some of it especially the commercials and entertainment. Cheers!
