Lamma Island, Hong Kong
Sometimes the busy pace of Hong Kong requires a bit of rest and relaxation even if for one night which is exactly what we did. Lamma is a short 30 minute ferry ride from Hong Kong.
The island is quite unique in that there are no vehicles other than the tiny and I mean tiny ambulance, fire truck and police vehicles that
navigate Lamma’s small pathways. The pace is a lot slower than that of Hong Kong which is what we wanted. For an island of only 20,000 inhabitants, there are surprisingly many restaurants to chose from ranging from seafood, Italian, Turkish, Chinese, Greek to pub food.
A lot of the restaurants serve the food al fresco and some do offer indoor seating for those wanting the escape the summer heat.
Lamma is a hikers paradise with oodles of trails to choose.
Along the trails not only do you have amazing views of the South China Sea but wild flowers growing along the way.
So, let’s get back to the food! We walked by a shop that sold Turkish food and decided to have a Turkish pizza called Lahmacum for a snack.
For dinner, we strolled along the path until we found a place by the sea, Man Fung Seafood Restaurant.
For dinner we ordered braised bean curd in spicy meat sauce, fried eggplant with minced meat, steamed squid with broccoli and a family favorite, Yeung Chau fried rice.
All with copious amounts of green tea. We also enjoy beer with Chinese food so a large bottle was ordered. Our bill came to HKD$320.00 (USD$42.00) for the three of us and we’re hearty eaters!
The Culinary Chase’s Note: A relaxing evening with great food. Can it get any better than this?

I’m jealous!
At first I was thinking this is the island that has the giant Buddha statue, but I don’t remember that not having cars. But it has been a while since I was there. Looks wonderful, whether or not it’s the place I’m thinking of.
Hi Kalyn! Lantau island is where you saw the giant Buddha. Any chance of visiting again? 🙂
Cheers,
Heather
You took a beautiful photo of the sun set! YOur turkish pizza looks great, and seems quite spicy?!
BIG fried rice, I like it! You took a splendid photo of the sun set!
Hi Gattina! The Turkish pizza (lahmacum) had just the right amount of heat but the one I made 20 Sept ’06 post isn’t too spicy. Up to you! 🙂
Cheers!
