diy bath bombs

bath bombsGift-giving from the heart is always welcomed, IMHO.  Back in August, I hosted a baby shower for my daughter, Laura, and one of her requests was for me to make bath bombs as baby shower favors for our guests.  I have to admit I was a little apprehensive but as I queried the web, it seemed easy-peasy.  Well, that much is true but after three attempts at failed bath bombs, I am happy to say this recipe makes those failed attempts joyous.  These little gems make lovely hostess gifts or for that someone who’s difficult to buy for.

you will need

1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup citric acid (available at pharmacy shops or health food shops)
1/2 cup Epsom salts
1/2 cup cornstarch
2 1/2 tablespoons almond oil
3/4 tablespoon water
12 to 15 drops essential oil (such as lavender, orange, rose, eucalyptus, lemongrass, ylang ylang)
silicone molds
a few drops of water-soluble dye (if you want to have colored bath bombs)

method

silicone molds

Whisk the first four ingredients to remove any lumps. Mix oil, water, and oil in a small dish. Slowly add wet ingredients to dry. Mix until combined.  It should feel like wet sand.  Fill molds by packing down then let sit overnight.

I sprinkled colored sugar on the bottoms of the mold before adding the ingredients.

the culinary chase’s note:

One of the methods said to let sit for one hour before removing from the mold. When I did this, it crumbled. 🙁  Letting it sit overnight did the trick.   Enjoy!
